Description (from Dr. Patton's DP)
One of the first things you notice when you read Sherman Alexie’s Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian is that it is full of drawings and multi-panel comics that provide insights into the life of the narrator, Arnold “Junior” Spirit, a Spokane Indian who lives on the reservation in Wellpinit, Washington. We are going to create our own comics, but ours aren’t going to be about Junior’s life, they’re going to be about the historical reasons that Junior’s life is like it is.

Reflection
My comic focuses on how the United States used treaties in order to take over the Native Americans' land. The reason I chose this topic was because I wanted to know more about how the treaties were created and used. I read about how the U.S. took over a huge chunk of Native American land by just forcing the Natives to sign a treaty. It was interesting to read how land was taken over with the signing of a document and no wars or violence. My comic explains, in the general sense, how Native Americans were forced to sign treaties, giving up their land.
I am most proud of having a finished art piece/comic for the exhibition. I had some challenges with my comic like not completing the benchmark, but most of them were because I wasn't finished or I didn't feel like my comic was up to my standards. If I were to do this differently, I would add a background to each of the panels or focus on an event where a treaty was used to take Native American land instead of having it in general.
I have learned to focus on getting an assignment done, but still try to make it look nice.
